Action on Disability (AoD) Community Garden
Helen was appointed to design a tricky long and narrow north facing garden to the rear of a tall mixed use residential and office building in Hammersmith and Fulham. The building is to be used at ground level by AoD as their HQ with offices and conference facilities and needs to accommodate 2 accessible car parking bays and cycle storage and accessible low maintenance garden for staff and visitors. At upper levels the residential elements are managed by Shepherd Bush Housing Group with a garden for their residents at the far end of the plot.
The car parking bays have been staggered to minimise their impact and maximise planting and seating spaces with the bays delineated by a planted geo-grid and gravel to minimise water run-off and still have transfer zones. To the rear of the parking there is a herb and fruit bed and a covered pergola for cycle parking. The north facing garden is a woodland with mature multi-stem silver birch and Amelanchier trees underplanted with evergreen woodland plants and perennials.
Completed 2022.
